OK, so what is Ignite?
Ignite is similar to a download manager, that has one goal, download a software installer and start it.
But, we knew though that in order to get Ignite installed we needed to cross the same hurdle as other software installers. Meaning that we couldn’t just simply let you download Ignite and then forget about it, never to be installed and possibly even downloaded again.
Ignite uses either .NET or JAVA technologies as bootstrappers to install the application and kick off the download. These two technologies cover more than 85% of computers today and can allow Ignite to be installed with very low effort, if not one click.
Where is the real value with Ignite?
To really get to the heart of Ignite, the power is in repeat or return usage. Imagine for a second that any time you want to install software you visit a download site or a developer’s website directly and with Ignite already installed all you have to do is click the Download button and Ignite manages the file, makes sure that what was downloaded matches our fingerprint of the file, and then launches it.
