Our sweet history

In February of 2008, six of us met in a San Diego coffee shop to figure out a way to use our knowledge of and experience in the software industry to solve a problem we were passionate about: the lack of good software discovery mechanisms for users and effective promotional opportunities for developers.

We know how challenging it is to get even standout software discovered by interested users in a crowded market. So we sought to help developers earn money and reach new users by enabling them to recommend other applications they trust and endorse during installation, thus fueling future development and innovation while spurring competition that consumers would greatly benefit from.

And OpenCandy was born.

Today, our rapidly growing team has almost quadrupled in size and we’re working with some of the world’s best software developers while continuing to expand our existing partnerships and create new ones. Currently, our Software Network powers millions of user-friendly, opt-in only software recommendations every month.

We’re backed by awesome investors like Google Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners, O’Reilly AlphaTech Ventures, Reid Hoffman and Jordan Greenhall who have joined us on this mission to revitalize the software community.
